Professor emeritus at the Kapodistrian University of Athens. He served at the department of economics from 1975 to 2011. He was minister of labour and social affairs, alternate minister of foreign affairs and minister of foreign affairs (2001-2004), minister of the interior (2011-2012); economic advisor to the PM (1994-2003), member of the board of trustees at the Cyprus Institute, (2010-); chairman of the board (Hellenic Petroleum S.A. 2009-2011, and Lamda Development S.A. 2015-);
He has published many books and articles on economic, social and European integration issues.
